Just got this email from my estate manager... :D
Dear Members,
Telkom will be starting with the FTTH (Fibre To The Home) infrastructure upgrade on the Estate 23rd June which is expected to take 2 months.
Most importantly, during this upgrade, you should not be without service.
We anticipate ...
1 - A new SDC will be installed at the corner of Ibis End and Lakeshore Drive and existing lines migrated from the old and the old being removed.
2 - A Telkom contractor will be assessing cableways along the roads and then pulling fibre through them, and only digging where blockages are experienced.
3 - As these cables make their way around the estate, the contractor will seek to install fibre into each home so that a Telkom technician can complete installation and test before switching over.
This service from Telkom is at no cost to either yourselves or the Estate, as Telkom is merely upgrading their infrastructure. This work is being contracted out by Telkom to a private contractor as they did before when the green main fibre cable from the exchange was installed down Lakeshore Drive 2013 in preparation for this upgrade. The Team will be identifiable through their yellow vests with their company IDs on them at all time. If anyone approaches you without identification please do not allow them into your homes, but contact the office and we will assist you. Security procedures for entry of the team are in place and the team will be adhering to our rules and regulations of the estate.
This upgrade is basically Telkom converting from the existing copper wires to the new fibre optic one, for improved Internet speeds to each member regardless of distance from the SDC and multiple phone lines per home not impacted by a limit of copper wires. It also makes it easier to upgrade as faster Internet speeds become available and there will be little interference with regards to water ingress.
If you are not on the estate during this period e.g. you are a swallow and have migrated North we would appreciate it if you could let us know who to contact, if anyone, to allow Telkom access to your home for installation. Should you not have anyone who can do this, Telkom will be able to send a representative to your home on your return once you have notified them to do the installation.
Provision will also be made for those properties under construction and those that have not yet been constructed.
Should you have any queries about this process please contact us at the office and we will gladly assist you.
Kind regards
Janet Cannan
