Hi All

samsung syncmaster T240 (skouperds old monitor)

suddenly of its own accord would change the input - as if cycling through the input possibilities looking for a signal even thought there is a signal.
I pressed the auto button and it now flashes blank for half a second every 6 or so seconds even though it shows my desktop, possibly "checking" if there is still a signal?

it also seems to change to another input when I have selected the "digital in" after a few seconds and sometimes flashes the correct screen.

It did seem to start when windows does its normal screen saving mode, but I cant be certain.
I have changed the cable, does the same, I have change the screen and the new screen is fine so it is not the pc.

does anyone have any ideas? please :)

I havent checked if "HDMI in" or "RGB in " are stable yet. will do so shortly

When Samsung monitors lose signal / power for a nano-second, they scan for the next available input source. Mine does at least. Your issue could be a cable problem. If its resolved now though, all good :)

I can't help in the last 6 or so years I have only had 2 monitors both of them Samsung and both have been rock solid. The old one is still working at the in-laws place, they were still using a CRT.

Sounds like it may be a slight dip in power output... are you experiencing an increase in temps?
Power supply... how old is it?

If you power output dips for a split second, the screen could think that the video source is gone, so it tries to be clever and search for a new source for you.

russsiiiaaan you plonker :)

Morph - I don't know - I am still getting the same problem and another problem.

on startup, it cycles through the inputs. when I press a few buttons, it lets me see the windows input for 6 seconds at a time, flashing off for 1/2 of a second. it might then also start cycling through the inputs. I have no idea what sets it off on the cycling. I have tested with another cable and it does the same, I will check to find a better cable and also an hdmi cable. I even have a vga to hdmi converting cable I will check with (need to find the adapter though). but will only be back home after 12. man this is frustrating.

edit : how long do capacitors hold their power for? if one of the caps for the power regulating/inverting/input detecting is poked, it might be the cause.

Then I'm leaning towards the actual port on your screen :( do you get the same issue with another screen and the same cable?

A HDMI cable may be the easiest way to solve your issues (new cable, new port on the screen)

As far as I know, Caps don't release all their power, ever.
(I've pull apart an old screen that hadn't been used in years, and still got zapped by them)
