So NoMaD and I have started setting up a base and getting things ready for more players to join and get involved easily. If you have ARMA II Operation Arrowhead, you can play by getting DayZ Commander and installing the mod that way. We are on ZA5 - a private hive, nice customisations to the server, active admins and always a decent amount of players on. To link up with us all you need to do is figure out where you spawned on the coast, find some basic gear and call for a pickup!

Once together we can gear you up with a nice gun and find the other essentials you need to get up to speed quickly. So far we have a couple tents, decent gear, two cars and we're working on a UAZ and Helicopter. Would be awesome to raid with you guys! Our last campsite got raided so we moved to a more remote and secure location, you can't just run there easily when you spawn. We are thinking about hiding a vehicle near the coast though to speed up getting back to base if someone happens to die.

We have to check in with the tents every seven days just to keep them active. Go to dayzdb.com for a loot map and to orient yourself. Hopefully we will see Phatso, Dry and Ecko soon (thats 5 all in all). Who else has ARMA or is considering getting it? The standalone has been pushed back indefinitely and with two developers in jail in Greece, I think a purchase now isn't a bad idea at all. Steam have a cheap 200 buckish package running at the moment, but be prepared for a 15gb download!

Well worth it in my opinion, the real headache has been dealt with for you so you can expect happy bambi and bandit times! Really recommend guys try this game out, it's insanely addictive, fantastically immersive and has ridiculous depth. Not only is there real ballistics, weapons and vehicles but there is a weather system, phases of the moon, navigatable stars and much more to sink your teeth into! If you have no idea what to expect, watch some FrankieOnPc1080p on youtube, great channel.

So our base was raided lol. Nomad and I were killed in base. Phats you can log in and see whats left but I think its gone. All after some pretty intense Sunday afternoon missions to the nearby airfield, saw two cars moving in and a Little Bird spawn. We followed and Phatso got two guys, then we left to get fuel.

Nomad was holding overwatch of the Bird alone but it was flown very leetly away. They must have been a hive because soon after he was hunted and a Huey was operating the area, it must have spotted our base and sent in the troops to strip us of our vehicles then come back later for the loot.

Welcome to DayZ. Numbers and time to play can seriously count in your favour. I can't play for another two weeks or so, exams. So if anyone wants to have a crack at establishing a base go for it. Who knows it seems wherever you set up a base you will be hit by a hive eventually.

Maybe the answer for a small team of guys is just to go bandit and operate from log out to log out. However that means there's very little recovery from death and potential to upscale your operation. You're also bound to the team mates around you so you have to play when they do or end up dispersed.

You can't place tents anywhere in the South and you can't place them near any airfield. Guys all know about the major landmarks and tendency to put bases along the edges of the map. They also can't be in a clearing of any sort, it has to be an arb and heavily wooded area.

Also need a nearbyish road of some sort so you don't have to ride for 30min off road at 5km/h just to get in and out. On top of that, you need to put in a place where no lone soldier has a right to be moving between loot or vehicle spawns. Hmmm... Need ideas, anyone have any suggestions from dayzdb map?

Must say, even after loosing it all (bleak), the stories in this game are second to none. Keen to keep playing, but I need a break and we need a plan! We could have let the guys go at the airfield and perhaps avoided the trouble, but who's to say they wouldn't have spotted the base anyway. GG guys, it was fun.

Fuck you know I really wanted to check this out but I just don't have time. Unless I quit DGL I don't have time for another game. I will be looking to get the stand alone when it comes out so I can jam during the off season

I created a new survival plan... I really hope we can get a chopper going this time. We can troll or help guys out with it which should be epic end game.

I added one base, a backup base and a helo RV - each with a nearbyish vehicle RV. Hover over or click icons to see their description. You can access/edit the custom markers by following the link, use the standard grrr password. Zoom in one level and look for the custom labels and tent markers.

Any comments to improve the plan would be awesome. We could have guerilla "caches" around the map, but that sounds like a lot of work to me.

http://dayzdb.com/map#set=19332

--EDIT--

Well there is hope yet. I respawned today and managed to gear up very well very quickly. I went past the tents and cleared whatever guns I could into the white car. I've moved it to the new base location and its jam packed full of gear I just don't have a tent. If you spawn in, please look for a tent or two - I can gear you with guns and medicals. There is no food or water in the car, I had to make space for guns and ammo! :P

The car also needs fuel tank parts, but otherwise it's functional. At this stage I'm not going to pick anyone up with it. It's too valuable to lose that AND all the loot I have. Maybe I'll get a tent sometime soon but my feeling is I need Nom or Phats to try because I'm going to be studying this whole week and the weekend. Message me on whatsapp if you need the coordinates. It's remote, pretty tricky to find and I'm well pleased with the aerial concealment.

Amazing a comeback like that can take only 2 or 3 hours but sometimes you can go for days not finding anything good.

Well well well... while studying and popping in for about 5 max 30 min. each sessions: I got killed by a hostile tree while proning too close it's unmentionables, I sprinted across the map with no gear except a map and recovered everything except the ghillie suit, found an M24 and a tent and have literally hit my limit in terms of what I scan scavenge for 1 person. So many guns, one car and some basic survival stuff. Still need some medicals, tools and parts for later tents.

So far, the tent and vehicle spots are uncompromised and are damn hard to find/see. The time is ripe for young bambies to come fluttering about and collect some wicked gear so we can find some nvgs, rangefinders and even more riduculous amounts of tasty lootness. Come one come all lets have a jol (that joke works in Acasia). Nomad fix your computer, Phatso care less about work, Lee come alive, Droog stop eurotripping balls, Ecko join grrr already!

The call of Kutulu!

Haha, I just got back from Austria, fucking amazing place. Learnd how to snowboard too.
But dude how much have you been playing? cause most of the time i get such crap loot.
The few times i got some good stuff was when I caught a couple of guys off guard, and either killed them or hijacked their car. Btw, hijacking, without killing, is extremely exhilarating.

Oh and, we were driving through the small towns in the Czech Republic last week, and pretty much everything I saw reminded me of dayz's map. From the road signs to the deer stands. So strange.

Hubris
18-01-2013, 01:18 AM
Hahaha nice... we have been playing just a bit now and then. We're using the loot map and the server restarts four times a day so its easy to get in first before everyone else loots stuff if you're quick about it. Our camp is still there and its in proximity to good loots, but Phats and I died today whilst searching for parts for the car. Yes we lost the car too. Ambushed by M107, poor Phats got dropped in the drivers seat before he knew what was happening.

I managed to kill Bezerker when he tried to rush me. Not seeing anyone close, I thought I might be able to get in the car and get away and perhaps come back for Phatso's loot but the moment I stepped into the car I took one to the dome piece - probably AS50 it made no sound at all. Weird bit is Bezerker died literally 5min earlier and all of a sardine he's monster geared and 2km or so up the coast with no car - in a hero skin (he's perma bandit).

Hmmm...

Nomad knows him apparently but I serious dislike the guy and will make a point of killing him if I can find him. After killing us, he rides up and down the road to the bodies from the coastal spawns waiting to troll us as bambis. Anyway whatever, YOLO > typical NSD donkeys and this is DeathmatchZ until the standalone comes and puts emphasis on actually banding together to survive the environment and make end game more cooperative.

Lee has tried a bit more now but I suspect it will be a few days before we get on again and form a squad at the camp.

Yeah, I am stoked that DayZ has some grrrbians playing. The game is incredibly immersive and really unforgiving which makes for tense moments that no other game offers.

Hubris and I had a good run yesterday until the ambush. Sucks ass but it does happen every not so often where you'll get sniped from 500m out. No warning, no nothing. I don't mind dying and getting sniped but what happened after sealed the deal of fate for me. They still trolled us when we had nothing on us (the term "bambi" means you are literally a baby dear - weak and not of any value).

Its on now.

Hubris

Well Phats and I found a car in good nick under a bridge and got it back to base. Then all of a sudden a hacker teleports us so we DC. Later I read the server has rolled back 2 hours and I sprint to get the car, heart pounding. Manage to navigate the mountain roads and put it in a very nice parking spot indeed. Shortly after I realised what a duche I was because I just ran over my gun tent while parking. I feel like crying.

I had a Lapua, DMR, G36K, M16A3 Acog, 2x M14 Aims, M249, small arms, ammo and medicals. I mange to destroy all of it like a true dick splash. I guess that kind of rules out doing anything else for a while! Need to build up dem weapons! Luckily we are close to Baranzino and the NE Airfield so a few leg trips and we will be sorted. If we are really struggling we can just go cruising in the ghetto mobile for crash sites.

Phatso your guy is still in Myshinko in that tree line we stopped at, last I saw the ATV was still there but I couldn't find Jerry's where we did, must have been looted. Really sorry about that it was a total retarded move, only realised too late and was completely shocked. I even thought about just running to cherno with a flare on my back doing the Platoon final scene to atone for my sins, but I was tired and went to bed.

Apparently if you leave a crushed tent you might get it back at server restart, not hopeful for the gear but I'm trying it.

Had a wierd experience this morning. Took the car for a ride to help a guy out who was killed by a hostile rock, there was literally no one else on the server, managed to find a UAZ along the way. We fixed it up and just as we were about to drive off the guy gets capped by some dude who just spawned in and saw us. So in the end I just traded the ghetto mobile for a UAZ and ran for my life! Tent is back btw, no guns.

Ya I know it might be annoying that I keep posting the stories, but DayZ is all about the stories and I love them! Hope at least some guys find them amusing. This game never ceases to amaze. I didn't stop to try kill the guy because I had too much to lose. You always need to consider whats in it for you and whether risk is justified, because you could lose 12 hours of gameplay, loot and vehicles in a split second if you are too aggressive.

-- EDIT -- LOL I went back to the scene of the crime and reclaimed the ghetto mobile!

Paul

No no keep them coming. The more I read the more I am convinced I will get this when it comes out as a stand alone.

On that, you think pre-standalone and post stand alone player will be able to play on the same servers?

Phatso
21-01-2013, 04:47 PM
Yes dude, keep the stories going. Its EPIC! I understand that need to share stories because some of them are just unbelievable at times.

On that, you think pre-standalone and post stand alone player will be able to play on the same servers?

Nope, SA (Standalone) is a whole new architecture/infrastructure. You play on separate servers. It would be a completely separate game that will follow a similar pricing to Minecraft (low once off cost at first as a beta, cost to increase over time).

Well its been some time since we had a DayZ update. Since my last post so much has happened, I don't know if I can recall it all here! After being ambushed I didn't play for a while until Dry came back. Since then him, Ecko7 and I have been ripping it up on Chernarus. Ecko killed a guy with an AS50 within the first couple hours of playing and later he took out Pestilence and a few others at Polana.

Suffice it say we became very well geared very quickly.

We established a base in Black Forest again and managed to get quite a stockpile going, but it wasn't long before some loot was nicked and we knew we had to move camp. In a heart pounding few moments, Dry and I sat in our car refuelling at the petrol station with a car stacked full of guns and gear. Literally sitting ducks. We escaped unscathed and set up a new base way north on the edge of the map.

So we now have a much more secure base, a UAZ and an SUV. Probably the best two cars we could get in the game, except for maybe the Land Rover. If you guys are keen on playing we are in a position to get you involved and deliver some grrr beatdown! Phatso and Lee come back to DayZ! Russian download Arrowhead already you noobcake. Nomad, well ya, come alive.

Hopefully see you guys online soon. The more consistent players we have, the likelier getting a chopper crew going is.

Dry and Ecko, I found a base to our east - about 500m from Pobeda. They had a landy and a camo UAZ, one tent stacked with gear. I loaded the UAZ up and took it back to our place, M4A1 CCO and M4A3 CCO in there. Grid 086/015. Looks like our SUV is gone and someone has been through our tent.

We're playing on a Taviana server, if you want to join you need to download the taviana.com version (not the taviana.eu) - around 1GB. Filter your server list for "SMK" and join that. It is a foreign server but we get pretty good performance and it always has like 20 or so guys on it.

Dry and I had geared up well, had a Red Golf car and eventually fuelled up a Huey. We got it flying and did some sightseeing but after a seriously random spawn glitch I was on the mountain and Dry had to fly to meet me. At the pickup, someone flew into Dry with a C130 cargo plane.

Crazy stuff seriously, so awesome! The map is great albeit a bit glitchy but its typical Dayz stuff. This said, the map is way better than Chernarus, there are so many sights to see and plenty good pvp chances. Would be cool to get you guys involved, join us!

So hear me out. DayZ standalone is delayed indefinitely and has turned it something of a poison chalice. Although including as many features as people could mention gave the game a lot of support and makes it's awesomeness more awesome, it seems to me Rocket over committed a bit in terms of his deadlines given so far. I think it will be another 6 months before we see a functioning DayZ AT BEST! I know they will try release a stable platform then incrementally update, but that's not going to be any time soon. That being the case, I seriously recommend everyone play some DayZ before it does!

My basic assessment of the game is that it's tons of fun and ridiculously good, albeit very buggy. With some experience and basic knowledge, you can do or overcome pretty much anything in the game. However, it does get stale if you have no real mission apart from killing other people trying to do the same - it also peters out a bit when you hit ideal gear and finally have no reason to do anything except shoot others for luls. I may have something for you that solves those problems! Ok maybe not the glitches but I believe you will really enjoy the gameplay dynamics and ultimate theme of my idea.

There is a mod of DayZ called DayZ Origins. It's on Taviana, in my opinion the best map of them all. However, it's not the standard Taviana as it includes an area called "Sector B" (inhabited by rich people paying to escape the infection) and also includes some cool design tweaks. Sector B is a veritable security island with NPC guards and NPC civilians. It features the rarest and best guns in the game (via killing guards) and they are not easy to get since the NPC's effectively have an aimbot. They might not be as intelligent as players but there are a lot of them and they sure can kill you.

Origins also features super zombies which obviously and stronger and tougher than the regular and are quite viscous indeed. So gearing up to get to the island is a real challenge too. You need to travel by boat, heli or plane to the island and once there vehicles are spawned but you will need to find fuel etc. to get them going. From the videos I have seen loot like food and drink does not spawn in the buildings on Sector B and there is no point looting them. This means we have to take a good amount of food and ammo with us to make sure we survive.

My suggestion is that we establish a team to go in and find Patient Zero - the source of the infection and solve the DayZ story. We all get assigned a role and loot up in our own time to get as much of the best gear we can for our role and meet up to go to the island and fight it out. While gearing up we can all play asyncronously in our own time before a given cut-off date then all spawn in on an agreed day for an epic session of Sector B as a squad! Players are a threat while gearing up and while on the island, so don't think the PvP aspect is gone!

The plan is to secure a helicopter for the trip and land on the roof of the hotel in the centre of the island, air insertion and extraction for the win! I will do my best to help people with their checklists, but I can't get all the gear alone. My idea is to have two teams of 3, but hey we will take as many guys as we can get and go with that. I think it will give us a great casual and social game to play in the interim while we work towards the goal event. You could gear up with mates once a week or something or just loot up alone when you have a few spare minutes. The below is basically the outline of what we need:

x2 Support: Mk 48 LMG or similar, ammunition.
x2 Medic =: M16A3 or similar, medical supplies.
x2 Sniper: DMR or similar, food & water.
1 x Huey with fuel to transport us to and from the island.
1x Emergency boat to transport re-spawners back to the island.
All basic inventory items, personal first aid and camo clothing / ghillies.
All Alice or Cayote backpacks stacked full of assigned supplies - one main gun each.
Although a temporary tent/car base will exist for logistical purposes, players must focus on building their characters.

Be aware! Death while looting up your character or while on Sector B is final! Unless you can re-gear and get to the island again via boat.

Going to sector B has to be an event and we have to commit to play 4 or more hours in one sitting. This is simply because once on the island, you have around 6 hours before the server restart (if you timed it perfectly) which will respawn all the NPCs who will no doubt kill you. You can log in and out on the island but all your progress in terms of clearing the island is lost after that time period. I think it's really cool and gives us something amazeballs fun to try and overcome! Questing in a PvP MMO ARMA ZOMBIES RAAAAAWWR! DO YOU EVEN LIFT BRO?????////??

If anyone is really biting to get DayZ but doesn't want to or can't buy Arma Operation Arrowhead, I am thinking about giving out two or three games (R~500) via Steam. To get a game you will obviously have to commit to taking part in the event. For now I'm going to say the loot phase will start from mid-March to 1 May or so and then we go for the event sometime in June or July on a Saturday or Sunday during the day. Whatever, I'm not sticky on the timeframe, lets just make it happen!

It's a long term time investment, but its on your terms and will be so worth it.

I would really like to hear your thoughts on the idea and in terms of how to make it work. I have found what I think is a suitable server and will help people with downloading and connecting to it if they need it. For now all you need to do is commit, download DayZ commander, download your ARMA files from Steam, download the mod files and get some experience in the field soldier! It is a lot to download and you need to be prepared for that, but I suppose we could find ways and means to get files to people if it's impossible to download. So who's with me?? Caman!

If anyone is planning on playing DayZ ever, I suggest you start before standalone.

Some people thought there's no point playing DayZ since ARMA 3 is out and they're wrong - the standalone is not based on ARMA 3. It's based on Take on Helicopters which is an ARMA 2 based game - with some revisions. Confirmed by Rocket himself and DayZ is officially a product so I'm sure some IP restriction does apply.

Since NOONE RESPONDED - fuck you guys - I went along and started. I found an SUV, a Heli and a great spot to loot farm. So basically I have top gear and vehicles to hit the island and some to spare for Dry. I seriously can't recommend this more, all you have to do is download the mod (1GB), choose your spawn point, get into the loot farm position and farm that place literally 5 times (2 hours max) and you are good to go.

Obviously if people were interested I would loot for them to help but since no one is I havn't. I could give up to 6 guys a lift to the island as planned, but I won't. I'll send you guys a postcard from Salvation with a drawing of a dick on it. Because you like it like that. FUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!11

It's fine, seriously, it's just fine. People miss out on epic quests all the time and I save a lot of dollar.

Stef, you are correct that ArmAIII is not DayZ and that playing DayZ now, will give you good practice for SA (StandAlone).

Sorry I haven't had time to get Origins installed and to get jamming. Its just the A3 bug at the moment and there is only so much to do until they fix the niggly issues that an Alpha always has. The game needs optimization.

I will get the mod installed this evening and get cracking ASAP. I know the excitement of DayZ and it is well epic and still has its merit.
I just got a bit sick of the mod because before you even started playing, I was in the exact same position. Playing solo is not fun and you need a group. Will make it happen.

Cool we have a party of 4 which is plenty. We're planning to get going around 10 or 11 AM tomorrow (Saturday) on the UK003 server: 88.208.219.169:2402. You will be able to choose where to spawn and both of you should choose Metrovice. 038/072.

It's on the small island and I'm not far away with the SUV to pick you up. I have three tents to run you past so you can gear up a bit and then we start looting for the remaining windscreen glass for the chopper and basic supplies for our trip.

We may even get the chopper repped up and moved to a safer location lets see how our day goes! We can't go to Salvation just yet cos Dry is at Ramfest but we can still have some fun. I am keeping a Cayote, a M4A3 ACOG GL, a VSS and some equipments for Dry so don't steal those ;)

Stubags I'm thinking of giving away copies of ARMA2 CombinedOps if you can't get one, but I think they're around $13 or ~R100. Half price now, so really cheap actually it's no big deal. Origins is also coming out with another update soon with extended end game so gonna be interesting.

Epic times on Saturday on Taviana! A day full of DayZ goodness. Repairing up a chopper and cruising the skies with pilot Stef was epic. Desync put in me the middle of the ocean, but my trusty pilot did a baywatch sky rescue! Then nonchalant joined us for some more good times. Epic chopper bail by Stef and we lost our chopper. Managed to get 4 kills with the SA58 ACOG during the course of the day. BEAST GUN.

Pity we lost the SUV of style, but that is the DayZ way. You make progress and when you think you've got it covered, you lose it. Haha!
Moral of your story Stef, don't go hunting unless you have a professional with you :)

Hahaha too true. Well I found a VS which has like 50 weapon slots and 200 item slots stashed away for us as a resupply vehicle. I'm working on the SUV and parts for the chopper too. We should be sorted soon, got some good farming in last night and today. It has been epic so far and we havn't even set foot on Sector B yet!

In the gunfight Nom and I had there were literally 10 guys involved, over 4 cars including 2 SUVs. We managed to destroy the one SUV and that's the one that respawned. So despite losing some top end gear and a chopper, it wasn't a total fail. I recovered quickly that evening and got a bicycle which has helped alot in terms of moving around.

-- Wow you can be productive on sick days hey! Managed to get the VS going, then got parts for the SUV and got that going. Now we have two cars, one for storage and one for missions. I have started scrounging the heli supplies and will try get that going soon but I will need help from le professionals.

Nom you should re-spawn at Metrovice and try get an Alice, Map, Compass and a bit of food/drink. I have found another gun like the one you had and have a few STANAG to spare. Get involved boeit! I reckon we're literally two hours or so away from having a heli and an SUV again.

I reckon going forward we always have one person dedicated to the Heli and if we do drop people off for ground missions for supplies they use the SUV while the heli waits to pick them up again. It's just too valuable to lose/rebuild AGAIN. I don't mind doing that, but it does mean I'll miss out on some of the fun :(

Salvation city is a bit different as we have to use the chopper to get in and out before the server restart. We could stay there over the restart, but the heli would respawn back at the mainland. So it's crucial we park it somewhere clever and get in/out quickly.

I've realised a big key to DayZ is understanding that deaths happen and every life should be preparing for another life to make it easier. So plan ahead, get some transportation, set up a loot run, take everything worth something you see and cycle the rest of the loot. Repeat the loot run and you get going very fast!

Double post FTFWBB!

Here's some screenies with bad drawings on them to make you more confused about my plans for Origins:

470

This is on the South of the small island and is the base of our looting operations. The heli island is quite closeby to the East and we can utilise that beach area to do some safe drop-offs and pickups from resupply runs.

The arrows just indicate the typical approach for most players (avoid). I think we should prefer Alpha beach through Delta, since we have to leave our heli there for some time unless we land directly on the hotel stronghold.
